di una luce bianca e disadorna

vuoto di una fioca parvenza di vita,

fremito di strade percorse dal treno

nel mormorio di ombre che tengono d’occhio

l’esatta scansione delle mete.

Qui dentro il sonnolento pensiero

porto il ricordo di un addio,

l’immagine di un vetro

a separare ciò che fugge indietro

dallo sguardo che cerca

l’ultimo gesto prima del dolore.

Ma se infrango il tempo e ancora cerco

quel ch’è fuggito indietro

il fuori si è mutato nel groviglio

di  rami che si spezzano alla furia del vento,

nelle immagini mute

della campagna e la città che guarda

dalle finestre il correre del treno

che mi trasporta dentro.

Quella luce bianca e disadorna

assieme al tempo opaco di ombre e di suoni

giungerà alla meta all’ora stabilita

nel luogo che ignoro.

The Traveller

I travel in the time

of a white naked light

empty of a dim semblance of life,

shudder of tracks travelled by the train

in the murmur of shadows that keep an eye

on the exact scansion of the destinations.

In here the sleepy thought

I carry the memory of a goodbye,

the image of a pane of glass

separating what flees backwards

from the searching look

for the last gesture before the pain.

But if I fracture time and still I seek

what fled backwards

the outside is altered in the tangle

of branches that snap in the fury of the wind,

in the mute images

of the countryside and the town that looks

from the windows at the speeding of the train

that carries me in.

That naked white light

together with the opaque time of shadows and sounds

will reach its destination at the fixed time

in a place to me unknown.
