C’erano uomini come
Kierkegaard e Sartre
che trovavano l’esistenza
assurda,
che combattevano contro
l’ansia e l’angoscia.
Adesso c’è solo una gran voglia
di non pensare, di starsene tranquilli
davanti ai televisori o chattando
nei social o al più
nelle serate malinconiche rivedere
in un vecchio video dai colori opachi,
noi quand’eravamo alle prime armi
e presenziavamo ai grandi raduni
di poeti borghesi e lecchini.
I raduni li tengono ancora e
Baudelaire ancora li accusa
mi risponde accigliato
posando la bottiglia appena scolata. –
Sto parlando proprio di me.
Sto dicendo che il segreto è disprezzare
chi canta i Te Deum e fingere d’essere reietti
buttati fuori dalla società
dei poeti laureati
e dei ben pensanti che scrivono poemi.
Fingeranno di non saperlo
si scandalizzeranno e ti diranno
che sei un ubriaco un poeta rozzo
uno scrittore maledetto.
Oppure t’ignoreranno
come un mendicante davanti
alle loro chiese
(si attacca a un’altra bottiglia
come un ebreo alla sorgente
sgorgata dal bastone di Mosè nel deserto)
ma io all’insaputa di tutti
ho amici potenti a cui offro
profumo d’incenso e qualcos’altro
che per decenza non confesso neppure
a me stesso.

Amico mio! Bukowski povero,
di me dicono proprio questo o
addirittura m’ignorano.
Scrivo senza le tue risate
senza le tue allegre bevute
senza intrecciare i Te Deum
Scrivo ubriaco dil dolore

Bukowski mi guarda e scoppia a ridere.
Io non riesco.

Bukowski et moi

Pensez-y – Bukowski me dit
en faisant le geste d’avaler
tout en un souffle
la première des huit bouteilles de bière
alignées sur la table devant nous -
Il y avait des hommes comme
Kierkegaard et Sartre
qui trouvaient cette existence
absurde,
il me répond en fronçant les sourcils
en plaçant la bouteille à peine drainée. -

Bukowski and me

Think about it – Bukowski tells me
in the act of gulping down
in one breath
the first of eight bottles of beer
in a beautiful row on the table in front of us -
There were men like
Kierkegaard and Sartre
who found existence
absurd,
who fought against
anxiety and anguish.
Now there is only a great desire
not to think, to stay calm
in front of the televisions or chatting
in the social media or at most
to replay in the melancholic evenings
an old video with opaque colours
when us were beginners
and were attended the great gatherings
of poets bourgeois and suck-up.
The gatherings still hold them e
Baudelaire still accuses them
to sing Te Deum to whom they do not believe.
- Truly Baudelaire spoke of himself. – And why, me
who am I talking about? -
he answers me frowning
and putting the freshly drained bottle -
I’m talking about me.
I’m saying that the secret is to despise
who sings Te Deum and he pretended to be rejected
thrown out of the graduate poets
and of the well-thinking who write poems.
They will pretend not to know
they will be scandalized and will tell you
that you are a drunk, a raw poet
a cursed writer.
Or they will ignore you
like a beggar in front
to their churches
(he sticks to another bottle
like a Jew at the source
that gushed from the stick of Moses in the desert)
but I unbeknownst to everyone
I have powerful friends to whom I offer
scent of incense and something else
that for decency I do not even confess
to myself.

My friend, Bukowski. Poor!
Of me they say this or
even they ignore me.
I write without your laughs
without your happy drinking bouts
without weaving the Te Deum
with alcohol, sex and irony.
I think of what you call bad luck
which is not the real one,
the one that is hiding
in the smile wet with tears
the one that scratch the cheeks and takes away the strength
to sing Te Deum that I do not believe in.
I write drunk with pain
that confuses the past with the future,
that has always haunted me
and closes me in a quiet corner
among poor, lovable and ignorant people.

I do not want to say it but I think
that’s why you are Bukowski
and I nobody.
Bukowski looks at me and bursts out laughing.
I can’t.
